Our Beliefs
North Shore Christian
Fellowship has been formed as a body of believers in the Lordship of Jesus
Christ. We are not a denomination, nor are we opposed to denominations as
such. We simply want to work harmoniously with all those who call upon the
name of Jesus in truth.
We Believe...
the Godhead Exists in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. These three
Persons are one God having precisely the same nature, attributes and
perfections.
The Lord Jesus Christ
In His eternal existence as God,
His incarnation and virgin birth,
His death on the cross as the atonement for sin,
His literal, bodily resurrection from the dead,
His present ministry of intercession in heaven, and
His personal, future return to earth.
The Holy Spirit...
convicts people of sin and the
need to repent. It is His task to conform the believer into the image of
Jesus. He indwells the believer, leads into all truth, provides daily
guidance, gives gifts (I Cor. 12) and most importantly, fruit - especially
love - without which we have no right to claim ourselves Christians (Gal 5:22
& 23). It is by being filled with the Spirit that the believer receives the
power to live the Christian life (Acts 1:8 & Eph. 5:18).
The Bible...
is the inspired, infallible Word of God and is relevant and applicable to
people today
(2 Tim. 3:16 & 17).
Mankind
Adam was created innocent and
pure. However, according to Romans 5:12-21, he fell through the sin of
disobedience. Thus, we have inherited a sinful condition and broken fellowship
with God.
Salvation...
is by grace, a free gift of God apart from works,
. . . requires repentance, a turning from one's own way to God's way,
. . . is through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ,
. . . all who receive Jesus are regenerated, "given new life," by the Holy
Spirit
and become the children of God, and
. . . true salvation will be manifested by a changed life.
Jesus is Good News!
GOD'S LOVE: "For God so loved
the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him
should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16. Ever wonder how much
God must love us, that He would give His Son? Ever ask yourself, "Would I have
done that with my son?"
MAN'S NEED: "For all have
sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23. "For the wages of
sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord."
Romans 6:23. Sin has built a wall of separation between God and mankind. If
we are ever to get close to God, sin must be dealt with.
JESUS' PURPOSE: "And you shall
call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." Matthew
1:21. If someone is not aware of sin in his/her life, they will never see
their need for Jesus.
More Good News!
LIFE: "I have come that they
may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." John 10:10. Jesus
does more than merely forgive people of sin. He imparts a quality of life that
has purpose and meaning; life that includes love, joy and peace.
REST: "Come
to Me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matthew
11:28. Jesus wants us to come to Him now, just as we are, not trying to "clean
up our act" first. He can give rest to our very souls.
COST: "For by grace you have
been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God."
Ephesians 2:8. You can't earn forgiveness, but you can receive it for
free! How?
BORN AGAIN: "Unless one is
born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." John 3:3. Asking Jesus to
come into your heart, forgive your sins, and to lead you through life is the
born again experience.
JESUS KNOCKS: "Behold, I stand
at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will
come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me." Revelation 3:20. Jesus is
knocking on the door of your heart. Won't you welcome Him in?
PRAYER: "If we confess our
sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from
all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9. You can pray something as simple as this:
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus. I know that I am a sinner and
need Your forgiveness. I want to turn away from my sins. Jesus, please come
into my heart. I want to be born again. I want to follow You. Please make me
the person You want me to be. In Jesus' name, Amen!
KNOW THIS: "He who has the Son
has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things
I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may
know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the
name of the Son of God." 1 John 5:12 & 13. When you ask Jesus to come into
your heart, God wants you to know that He forgives you.
What happens next? Growth. How
can we grow?
1. Praying/talking with God.
2. Reading your Bible
3. Fellowship/Church
4. Telling others about Jesus.
NSCF's Threefold Purpose
UPWARDS
Exaltation of God:
To have a high view of who God is. "Let them exalt Him also in
the congregation of the people..." Psalm 107:32. Those who have never been forgiven by the
Lord - who have never undergone the cleansing touch of Jesus and the
life-changing power of the Holy Spirit - really have no idea what is taking
place when His people truly worship Him. Worship is the response of a thankful
heart; a heart that knows, by experience, the grace and goodness of God. As we
worship our heavenly Father, dwell on His attributes. He is Almighty,
Compassionate, Faithful, Good, Holy, Patient, Pure, Righteous, Trustworthy,
Wise, and so much more.
INWARDS
Edification of the
Body: "We do all things, beloved, for your edification." 2
Corinthians 12:19
A) To have a high view of the Body of Christ. We really do need each other,
and we really do need to love one another, for that is the mark of a disciple
of Christ. Being here should demonstrate that being committed to this group of
believers is a top priority in our lives.
B) Edification means to build
up the church members. Another reason we are here is to become more equipped
to carry on the work the Lord has for each of us. A game at Aloha stadium can
have 50,000 spectators - who desperately need exercise - critiquing 22 players
who desperately need rest. But here we should be participants, not spectators.
OUTWARDS
Evangelism of the
Lost: to have a correct view of the fallen condition of mankind and to have a
compassionate heart for them and their salvation. "Go into all the
world and preach the gospel to every creature." Mark 16:15. Everyone needs Jesus. Pray
that the Holy Spirit moves upon the hearts of people as we gather, showing them
their need for Christ and to genuinely turn from their sins to the abundant
life in Jesus!
